The Siena Saints and the Niagara Purple Eagles meet Tuesday in MAAC Tournament college basketball action from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. Let’s get into our Siena vs. Niagara prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.
Siena Saints
The Saints only won three of their first 13 games this year over Holy Cross, Rider and Niagara. Siena is just 1-14 in the 15 games since then. They’ve fallen to Saint Peter’s, Canisius, Fairfield, Manhattan, Quinnipiac, Niagara and Iona in the last seven games alone.
On Saturday in the Iona matchup, the Saints were down 32-26 going into the second half. Siena hit a 36-28 run the rest of the way and took the loss 68-54. Tops in scoring was Michael Eley with 15 points and three rebounds off the bench in the defeat.
Niagara Purple Eagles
Over on the Purple Eagles’ side, they started their year at a rough 3-8 overall, then hit a nice 7-1 stretch in January. After a 4-2 run over the next six games, Niagara would go 1-4 with losses to Canisius, Rider, Mount St. Mary’s and Marist alongside a lone win over Siena.
Matched up against Marist on Saturday, the Purple Eagles came out on the losing end of a close call. Niagara hit a 40-31 run in the first half, then fell behind 32-22 from there in a 63-62 result. Dre Bullock led the team in the losing effort with 19 points and one rebound.
ANDREW’S FREE SIENA VS NIAGARA PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Niagara. Probably not going near this one, though. The Purple Eagles had a bad second half in their latest matchup versus Marist, and eventually shot a tepid 42.9 percent from the field. Outside of that however, Niagara didn’t play terribly with 12-of-12 from the line and just eight turnovers. The Eagles haven’t hit 67 points in four of the last five games.
Back on March 7 in the latest meeting between these teams, Niagara powered out a 66-59 road win. The Purple Eagles shot 47.8 percent from the field in that one with 30 rebounds and 11 team assists. This tournament rematch should be reasonably close if both teams are on point, but I think the Eagles can eke out the cover.
