Oliver Sonne arrives in Peru to join the training sessions of the national team
In the afternoon, the right back with Peruvian ancestry, Oliver Sonne, arrived in our country for the first time to join the training sessions of the national team coach Juan Reynoso ahead of the matches against Chile and Argentina, corresponding to matchday 3 and 4 of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup respectively.
Sonne, 22, is originally from Denmark, where he plays for Silkeborg. He caught the attention of the national team in 2022. The opportunity to wear the Peruvian jersey came about due to his Peruvian maternal grandmother's nationality.
This year, the player started the necessary procedures to be considered by Reynoso for the Peru matches. After a couple of days, the right back received his DNI (Peruvian identification document) and the call from the national team coach.
COMPETING FOR A SPOT
Upon his arrival in the capital, Oliver Sonne, who is a player that operates on the right flank of the field, will seek to earn a spot in the starting lineup. He will have to compete with Luis Advíncula (Boca Juniors), Aldo Corzo (Universitario), and Jhilmar Lora (Sporting Cristal).
As a reminder, the Peruvian national team will face a tough challenge in Santiago on Thursday, October 12th at 7:00 p.m. against Chile, a direct rival in the quest for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
