New opportunities for some Argentine players.

Lionel Scaloni decided on Thursday to make changes to his World Cup squad due to the injuries of Joaquín Correa and Nico González. Ángel Correa from Atlético de Madrid and Thiago Almada from Atlanta United were called up to fill those two vacancies that had just become available to complete the twenty-six chosen ones; and one of the chosen ones could not hide his excitement for the call-up.

In an interview with Un Buen Momento on Radio La Red, Almada's father said that his son called him sobbing: "He called me crying and screaming to let me know about his call-up."

The Atlanta United player gave his father the trip to Qatar, so that he could enjoy the FIFA World Cup to the fullest and support the Argentine national team: "He caught me traveling to Qatar, he gave me the tickets for Father's Day. We can't believe it, it's the icing on the cake. Now we'll all have to travel".

Almada was called up for friendly matches played by the Argentine national team, specifically against Honduras. After the match, Lionel Messi had positive words about the former Vélez player: "Thiago has a lot of freshness. He's very fast, he has a lot of 'one-on-one' game. He's very clever, he's not afraid of anything, he takes on. He's a very professional and intelligent player."

World Cup qualifying teams can modify their list of 26 players up to one day before their tournament debut, which in Argentina's case will be on Tuesday 22 against Saudi Arabia.

Argentina arrived in Qatar to play the World Cup on Wednesday night to Thursday, a few hours after their victory in the United Arab Emirates.
