His name has become a trend in Peruvian territory. Oliver Sonne is a Danish player of Peruvian descent who expressed interest in wearing the Peruvian national team jersey in the future. The Silkeborg IF player will participate in the Conference League with his club.
The Peruvian defender did not manage to reach the Europa League, as Silkeborg drew 1-1 against JYSK and was eliminated. However, they secured their place in the Conference League.
Sonne will be with his club in Group B, alongside West Ham, Steaua Bucharest, Anderlecht, and Silkeborg. It is worth noting that José Mourinho's AS Roma is the current champion of the competition. Additionally, teams like Fiorentina, Niza, and Villarreal are the favorites to win UEFA's third-tier tournament.
Sonne and his desire with the Peruvian national team
The Danish player of Peruvian descent who plays for Silkeborg IF expressed interest in joining the Peruvian national team in the future, which is led by Juan Reynoso.
"Of course, the possibility is there, although it is all very recent. I would have to think carefully about which nation I want to represent, but it would be great to play for Peru and who knows, even wear the Peruvian jersey in the next World Cup 2026, which is one of my aspirations", mentioned the defender in an interview with RPP.
Sonne also mentioned that he has already started discussions with the Peruvian Football Federation in order to begin the procedures that would allow him to represent Peru. "Yes, I can confirm that my agent has already made contact with one of the members of the Peruvian Football Federation. In fact, at the moment, he is working on locating the documentation that proves that my grandmother was born in Peru to finalize my connection with you. Once that process is finished, we will start with the procedures that will allow me to be eligible to play for Peru", he pointed out.
