Despite being considerably far from the goal of qualifying for the next World Cup Qatar 2022, the Peruvian National Team still has possibilities to reach the next World Cup. However, to do so, the team will have to overcome several difficult matches.

According to statistics, in the last five South American qualifying processes, the teams that qualified for the World Cup did so with more than 28 accumulated points. However, the "Blanquirroja" broke their 36-year curse with only 26 points in the last qualifying process. It's also worth considering that the goal difference influenced and left Chile out of Russia 2018.

Taking into account these facts, for the national squad to qualify for Qatar 2022, they need to accumulate a total of 20 points. So far, they only have 8 points, placing them in seventh position, with a five-point difference from the fourth (Ecuador) and fifth (Colombia) places.

In other words, what Ricardo Gareca's team needs to secure their ticket to the Arab sovereign state is to win six of the remaining nine matches in the Qatar 2022 qualifiers. In the rest of the games, they can afford to be defeated once, and if they suffer two defeats, the obligation to win would increase to seven matches.

But that's not all, to ensure a smooth path to qualification, it's not convenient for Peru that teams close to their current position climb up. These teams include Chile, Paraguay, Colombia, and Ecuador.

Partidos que le faltan a la Selección Peruana 2021:

  • Peru vs. Chile
  • Bolivia vs. Peru
  • Argentina vs. Peru
  • Peru vs. Bolivia
  • Venezuela vs. Peru
  • Colombia vs. Peru
  • Peru vs. Ecuador
  • Uruguay vs. Peru
  • Peru vs. Paraguay

The good news is that the "Blanquirroja" has already faced Brazil, the toughest opponent they have encountered in recent years. However, they still have to play away matches in challenging scenarios like the altitude of Bolivia and Argentina, where the stadiums will be filled.
