Meeting Held in Bogotá to Discuss the 2020 Copa América

Representatives from the Colombian Government, Conmebol, and the Colombian Football Federation met on Monday in Bogotá for an initial meeting to discuss various aspects of the jointly organized2020 Copa América by Colombia and Argentina.

"You can feel confident that the Government and the Federation are committed to the communication processes and the support that Conmebol needs to carry out the Copa América successfully," explained the Minister of Sports, Ernesto Lucena.

The meeting was part of a five-day visit during which matters related to different organization committees were discussed, including protocol, transportation, security, medical services, and the press.

The tournament will begin on June 12th and after just over a month of competitions, the title will be decided in Barranquilla.

Conmebol highlighted the fact that Colombia has the Ministry of Sports as the highest governing body for sports in the country, and it trusts in the work and commitment of the mayors and governors of the host cities.

During its visit, the Confederation will conduct an inspection that will allow them to compile a list of requests to meet the requirements of the various committees for the realization of the tournament, which will have Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, and Barranquilla as the host cities in Colombia.

Former Colombian team captain Mario Alberto Yepes, who attended as an ambassador for the Copa América, stated that "our wish from the country is for everything to go well. As an ambassador, I will be accompanying the visit for these five days, and we will receive all the observations always with the intention of making the necessary improvements."

In this Copa América, there will be 38 matches played by 12 teams, the 10 from Conmebol plus Qatar and Australia.

According to the schedule, each participating team will play at least five matches in the closest host country.

Each of the organizing countries will have a group stage, called the North Zone and the South Zone, along with two quarterfinal matches and one semifinal.

The North Zone includes Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Qatar, while the South Zone includes Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Australia.
