MEXICO -- Manuel Lapuente assumed the role of sports director of Lobos BUAP in an interview with ESPN Digital and denied that Gabriel Caballero will take charge of coaching the team.
"I am the sports director, but that kid (Caballero) is not coming. Maybe one of us mentioned him, I don't know who, but normally we didn't talk about him, I mean, they haven't talked to me about him. Another coach is already being named, but I don't agree. I can't give you the name, excuse me, because it might jinx it," he commented.
He added, "It's not that I don't agree, it's that it wasn't even planned when they offered it to me. However, they offered a candidate that I liked and approved, but I can't tell you who it is. It's not that I'm superstitious, it's just that maybe if I say it, it might jinx it."
Lapuente added that he expects the club to announce the decision "between Wednesday or Thursday, at the latest."
"THERE ARE FIVE CANDIDATES"
On the other hand, Francisco de Dios, vice president of Lobos BUAP, contradicted Manuel Lapuente, as he hinted that they have not yet decided on a coach.
"We're still working on it, give me two days and I'll gladly tell you," he replied.
Although he didn't seem to have a clear idea of what they are looking for in a coach, he expressed that they are going for a young and charismatic trainer, and also stated that "we have five candidates, some of them are foreigners."
He also acknowledged that they are trying to tie it up quickly, since "everything was delayed by the fact that we were only accepted in the owners' meeting last week and, well, we couldn't put together a team without knowing if we were in the First Division or the Second Division."
In this sense, he affirmed that "we can't have reinforcements if we don't have a coach. Although we have our own list, we are waiting to decide who the coach is to define the possible reinforcements."
