The expert in sports law points out that FIFA's request to extend Paolo Guerrero's punishment was a key factor in it being 14 months.

The participation of FIFA in the TAS hearing in the case of Paolo Guerrero seriously harmed the Peruvian forward. Jhonny Baldovino, legal advisor of the Football Players' Association, talked to 'Fútbol Como Cancha' from RPP Noticias and assured that the way the maximum authority of world football acted did not favor the interests of the 'Depredador'.

"What changed the history of the hearing was FIFA's behavior, that was key. I understand that there was a disdainful attitude on their part, even with comments that were not appropriate in this type of situation. It is an issue that is recurrent with them when they go to court, everything led to believe that they were going to defend the six-month sanction but they did not. They ended up commenting that in these cases a one-year sanction is imposed, and in these occasions, they always wash their hands," said Baldovino.

On the other hand, he referred to the statement issued by FIFPro expressing their support for the Flamengo striker and revealed that for years there has been discomfort regarding the punishments that are being given when a player does not test negative in a doping test.

"Paolo's case was the last straw. There is a complicated issue that has been going on for many years regarding the anti-doping control protocol and that the sanctions are increasingly harsh. The desired goal of having a zero tolerance fight against doping is not being achieved, instead privacy is being invaded and they sanction even if one's innocence is proven or the involuntary consumption of a substance," concluded Baldovino.
