UNAM Pumas takes a timely 2-1 victory over Monarcas, ending their undefeated streak, and continues their great form in the sixth matchday of the 2018 Clausura Tournament held at the Morelos Stadium.

Matías Alustiza in the 28th minute and an own goal by Carlos Guzmán in the 49th minute were the scorers for the auriazul team, while Miguel Sansores in the 80th minute gave some hope to his team, but it was not enough for the draw.

With this result, Pumas reclaimed the overall lead momentarily, reaching 14 points, waiting to see what Rayados de Monterrey (11) and América (11) do in their respective matches, while Morelia stayed at 10 points.

In a match that promised to be attractive due to both teams' positions in the standings and the football they have displayed in the tournament so far, both Monarcas and Pumas had their moment, at least in the first half, to create their chances.

The home team had an irregular start, but as the minutes went by, they recovered, took control of the ball, and started to threaten the goal defended by Alfredo Saldívar, although they were unable to convert their chances into goals.

With the pressure exerted on the opponent's goal, Monarcas left spaces behind and Pumas took advantage of that to play on the counterattack, which was how they hurt their host and miraculously went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Pumas opened the scoring with a fast break that the Chilean Nicolás Castillo extended with his head to the run of Alustiza, who left Jorge Valadez behind, took the ball past the Uruguayan goalkeeper, and easily scored the 1-0 in the 38th minute.

The Michoacán team persistently sought the equalizer, but relied too much on crosses into the area, making it easier for the university defense, whose attacks caused serious scoring threats.

However, the capital team did not lower their pace and extended their lead when Carlos Guzmán could not prevent the ball from hitting his right leg and scoring an own goal in the 49th minute, from one of Pablo Barrera's numerous crosses into the area.

Roberto Hernández's team could not find a way to create real danger on the opponent's goal, nor did they have the idea to generate an elaborated play to overcome the rival's defense, but they had luck with set pieces.

That's how they managed to reduce the lead in the 80th minute and seek to salvage a draw, thanks to Miguel Sansores' goal, who with a precise header left Saldívar no chance, as he dove to his right side.

The Michoacán team tried to do in three minutes what they couldn't achieve in 90, and throwing themselves at the university goal, they lacked ideas to overcome it, so they had to bear the defeat that ended their undefeated streak.
