Although the Apertura 2016 has not been a great tournament for UdeG, the "melenudos" have done a great job in the formation of new talents, since in the course of the tournament, the locals have already debuted four homegrown players, the most recent being the central defender, Carlos Fernando García, who at only 19 years old, last Sunday stepped onto the field of the Estadio Jalisco against Mineros de Zacatecas.

The native of Chihuahua, started in the UdeG youth divisions since he was 17 years old, and little by little he showed his football skills. The defender had a great performance in the Second Division branch, which caught the attention of the "melenudos" coaching staff, and it was only this weekend when García was lined up to defend the UdeG goal alongside Rafael Figueroa.

This match was a tough test for the Leones' homegrown player, as he had to mark the best offensive team in the championship. Despite that, the central defender did a great job for most of the game, but in the final minutes a distraction cost them the defeat and García could not round off his debut with a positive result.

The Mexican defender said that although the team suffered another setback, he was able to enjoy this great moment in his football career.

"They told me that I was doing well, that I should be calm and it was a nice afternoon, I enjoyed my debut, but we didn't get the result and that was what bothered me the most... because for the majority of the game we were on top of them and football isn't about deserving, we lost, we didn't score, they had at most two chances and they scored one," he commented.

It is time for Fernando García to continue accumulating minutes with the team, to consolidate himself and achieve a starting position in the team. UdeG needs to do a better job in defense, and the homegrown players can be the solution for a team in need of results.
