The Northern Lights were visible around the city for the first time in more than 50 years, according to NY1 meteorologist John Davitt.
A solar flare erupted on Tuesday and is traveling over 1 million mph, impacting the Earth's atmosphere. That energy disturbs the magnetic field, making the aurora visible in the sky.
