Michigan State missing 4 top receivers at Boston College due to injury

The Spartans will need to dig down the depth chart on Saturday night.

The Spartans will need to dig down the depth chart on Saturday night.

Add Michigan State’s dynamic 17-year-old playmaker to the list of those sidelined by injury.

The Spartans (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) play at Boston College (2-1, 1-0 ACC) on Saturday (8 p.m., ACCN) and starting receiver Nick Marsh is among those listed out on the pregame availability report. The true freshman has 11 receptions for a team-high 232 yards and a touchdown and helped spark a comeback win at Maryland in Week 2.

Marsh is one of the latest additions to a long list of injuries for the Spartans who will also be missing starting receiver Jaron Glover for the second straight game. Veteran receiver Alante Brown will miss his third straight game after being injured in the opener and Antonio Gates Jr. is also out against the Eagles. Those absences will likely put more on the shoulders of receivers Montorie Foster and Aziah Johnson and the tight ends.

Michigan State is also without its top two right guards as Kristian Phillips suffered a season-ending injury in the opener and Gavin Broscious’ season came to an end due to a leg injury last week. Khalil Majeed is out for the season and fellow safety Dillion Tatum has a long-term leg injury. Cornerback Chance Rucker was injured at Maryland and is out for at least another month.

Marsh took a low hit after making a catch during the first quarter of last week’s 40-0 win against Prairie View A&M. He limped off the field and into the injury tent before jogging alongside the sideline with a trainer watching then returned to the game.
