There were no real surprises on the list of Seattle’s inactive players for Sunday’s game against Tennessee, if at least some disappointment that rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon won’t make it.

Witherspoon will miss a second straight game with a hip pointer suffered against the 49ers. He made the trip and was seen on the field before the game but didn’t appear to have been working out.

Seattle’s other inactives are all as expected and include three others out due to injury/illness — safety Jamal Adams (knee), WR Dee Eskridge (ribs) and OLB Frank Clark (illness) as well as three healthy scratches in offensive linemen McClendon Curtis and Raiqwon O’Neal and defensive lineman Myles Adams.

Tennessee’s list of inactives include quarterback Will Levis, who suffered an ankle injury last week and will miss the game. That means veteran Ryan Tannehill will get the start, his first since Week 6.

Tennessee’s other inactive players are: WR Kyle Philips, TE Trevon Wesco, OL Daniel Brunskil, DL TK McLendon, CB Sean Murphy-Bunting and DB K’Von Wallace.

The Seahawks’ all-time series with the franchise that is the Tennessee Titans — and used to be the Houston Oilers — feels like one of the more nondescript in team history.

Seattle leads it 10-7 and did get a key victory in Nashville late in the 2005 season to help clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC that year on the way to the Super Bowl. 

But that 2005 victory was the first time the Seahawks traveled to Nashville, Tenn., after the Oilers moved there in 1997, and they’ve been there only one time since — a 33-27 loss in 2017.

That was an early-season defeat in the first non-playoff season for a Russell Wilson-quarterbacked Seattle team.

Seattle’s return comes with equally high stakes — after Monday’s upset victory against the Eagles, the Seahawks are favored to beat the Titans by three points, get to 8-7 and continue to improve their playoff hopes. But a loss dropping them to 7-8 would be as disastrous as a win would be helpful.

If it has felt like an especially nerve-wracking season to be a Seahawks fan, there’s good reason.

According to Pro Football Reference, the Seahawks have snapped the ball on offense 834 times this season. They have been behind on 436 of those snaps, tied on another 159. 

And ahead on just 239, or just 28.6%.

Of course, that includes blowouts like the losses to the Ravens and 49ers in which the Seahawks were mostly behind.

But that also includes two games they won when they had a combined five snaps while ahead — an overtime victory in Week 2 against the Lions (four) and last week against the Eagles (one).
