Oregon reportedly losing key support staffer to SEC program - Saturday Out West

Oregon is losing one of its top sports performance assistants to an SEC program.

Oregon is losing one of its top sports performance assistants to an SEC program.

Oregon director of speed and performance Jarwarski Beckum is expected to leave Eugene for the same position at Mississippi State, according to multiple reports.

With Beckum leaving to join Jeff Lebby’s new Mississippi State staff, the Ducks will be losing two of their top strength and conditioning assistants this offseason. Assistant strength coach Shaud Williams is also reportedly joining the Bulldogs’ support staff. Mississippi State is reportedly creating the position for Beckum, who is returning to his alma mater after two seasons with the Ducks.

Beckum holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the USAW, and the USATF. He holds a fitness management degree from Mississippi State and has prior experience at Ole Miss, Nevada, Grambling, and Alabama.

At Oregon, he’s been part of a sports performance team that is second to none. The Ducks record speed and other performance data for all their players during practices and use that information to inform decisions on injury management, workload, and recovery.

“He is a tremendous addition to our strength and conditioning staff,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said when Beckum was hired two years ago. “Coach Jaws has done it all in the weight room, but truly specializes in speed training and development.”

Lebby, a first-time head coach at Mississippi State, is looking to build a top-notch all-around staff in his first season with the program.
