Oct. 17 Mynderse 3, Penn Yan 1 Mynderse took the win in a competitive match against Penn Yan. Scores for the match were 25-20, 25-22 and 25-20 for the Devils. Dundee/Bradford 4, Addison 1 The BraveScots took three of four games in a non-league matchup against Addison. Addison won the first game 25-22, but Dundee/Bradford won the rest with scores of 25-9, 25-14, 25-19.
Oct. 18 Dundee/Bradford 3, Hammondsport 0 Dundee/Bradford won all three games against Hammondsport with scores of 25-13, 25-6 and 25-9. The win put DB at 11-5 overall this season.
Oct. 20 Penn Yan 3, Dundee/ Bradford 0 Penn Yan beat Dundee/ Bradford in all three games to wrap up the regular season for both teams. Scores for the match were 25-18, 25-20 and a close 28-26 for PY. The win put Penn Yan at 10-7 overall this season and 7-5 in the Finger Lakes West. Dundee/Bradford closed out their regular season with an 11-6 record overall and a 6-6 record in the Finger Lakes West. Dundee/Bradford’s first Sectional match will be on Oct. 27 against Wheatland-Chili. Oct. 21 Penn Yan 3, Hammondsport 0 Penn Yan finished their regular season out with a three-game sweep against Hammondsport. Scores for the games were 25-14, 2512 and 25-19. Penn Yan’s next game will be their first Sectional matchup, where they will face Attica on Oct. 29.

Sectionals Class B2 Oct. 19 (#2) Penn Yan 1, (#7) Mynderse 0 After PYA’s high seed earned them a bye for the first round of the B2 bracket the Mustang’s beat Mynderse in a one-point game to move on to the tourney Semifinals. Carson Nagpaul scored the game-winning goal with an assist from Landon Berry. Mustang’s goalie Thomas Barden had 10 saves in the game. PYA succeeded much in part to their defense, with Roark Castner, Jesse Young and Spencer Enos shining especially. The Mustangs’ next match will be against Class B2’s #3 seed, North Rose-Wolcott on Oct. 26th. We will have the result of that match in our next edition.
CORRECTION: It was mistakenly reported last week that teammates David Reid and Jayden Reid are brothers. They are not related. Class C1 Oct. 19 (#9) Canisteo-Greenwood 2, (#8) Marcus Whitman 0 Whitman ended their Sectional run early, falling in the first round to Canisteo-Greenwood. Declan McAneney and Gavin Cobin scored for CW, with assists from Kevin Sirianni and Thomas Sirianni. Whitman finished out the season with a 5-11-1 record overall. Whitman had seven Seniors on the team this year including Gavin Deatherage, Austin King, Lee Martin, Carson Miller, Nick O’Hara, Jared Paddock and Tyler Tiffany.
Class C2 Oct. 19 (#5) Dundee/Bradford 6, (#12) Perry 0 Dundee/Bradford started off Sectionals with a bang, taking a six-point sweep against Perry. Aiden Monell and Miguel Candela each scored twice in the game, with Candela also adding an assist. Also for the BraveScots, Alex Goltry had a goal and an assist, and Ian Pavlina scored once with an assist from Hayden Erick. The win moved the ‘Scots into the C2 Quarterfinals against (#4) Marion. Oct. 22 (#4) Marion 3, (#5) Dundee/ Bradford 2 The BraveScots fell to Marion, getting knocked out of this year’s C2 tourney. Miguel Candela opened up scoring in the game, getting the first half’s only point. Candela also scored one in the second half, with goals from Marion’s Liam Phelps and Austin VanDeWalle bringing the game to a tie after two periods. It was a goal from Marion’s Aidan Miller that decided the game in overtime. Dundee/ Bradford ended their season with a final record of 126. They lose seven Seniors from the team this year, including Gavin Briscoe, Cam Buchanan, Hayden Erick, Ryan McTamney, Dylan Monell, Keegan Neu and Gabe Stiles. Class D1 (#6) Arkport-Canaseraga 0, (#3) Naples 0 Arkport-Canaseraga wins in sudden victory PKs Naples skipped the first round of D1 tourney, but lost in PKs against Arkport-Canaseraga, knocking them out of Sectionals. The Green finished the season with a 13-3-1 record and lose seven Seniors from their roster, including Adam Bay, Nedelcho Neumann, Cade Rathburn, Jake Stone, Donivan Todd, Logan Voss and Evan Waldies.

Sectionals Section B2 Oct. 22 (#5) LeRoy 3, (#4) Penn Yan 2 In the B2 Quarterfinals, Penn Yan fell to season rival LeRoy in a close one-point loss. LeRoy dominated the first half, scoring one goal 20 minutes in and then a pair to end the first period. The Mustangs rallied in the second, scoring two points to get close, but were unable to tie it up for a chance at the win. Maura Dambra, Kenna MacKenzie and Abby Allen were the scorers for LeRoy. PY’s attempted comeback was led by Hailey Hassos and Corinne Barden. In the nets, PY goalie Marion Wheeler made five saves, while Katelyn Everett made four for LeRoy. The loss put Penn Yan at a final record of 7-9-1 for the season, finishing up in 11th place in the Finger Lakes. Penn Yan has four Seniors graduating this year, including Morgan Andersen, Vanessa Martinez, Riley Meredith and Sienna Pettersen, however the Mustangs still have a lot of weapons in their arsenal for next year with team point-leader Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger (Sophomore) and Hailey Hassos (Junior), who each have three years in Varsity soccer, and 8th-grader Makenna Mullins, who has showed a lot of potential this season.
Section C1 Oct. 18 (#4) Marcus Whitman 2, (#13) East Rochester 0 As expected, the Wildcats came into Sectionals firing, cleaning up the first round of the C1 bracket with a 2-0 sweep. East Rochester put up a good fight, keeping Whitman to just one point a half, with both coming past the halfway point of their respective periods, and Bombers’ goalie Lily Chambers-Silva making 13 saves, but it wasn’t enough to stave off the ‘Cats, who’ve been a force to be reckoned with this season. Lily Morse scored Whitman’s first point with an assist from Raegan Weissinger, while their second was scored by Zoelle Payne off an assist from Lana Burnett. The win moved the Wildcats into the C1 Quarterfinals, where they were faced with (#5) Canisteo-Greenwood. Oct. 21 (#4) Marcus Whitman 2, (#5) Canisteo-Greenwood 1 Whitman picked up their second Sectional win, defeating Canisteo-Greenwood and moving on to the Semifinals. The Wildcats controlled the first half, with Aurora Woodworth scoring two goals with assists from Zoelle Payne and Raegan Weissinger. Canisteo-Greenwood struck back in the second half with a goal from Kylie Williamson, but were unable to score the tying goal, securing the win for Whitman. Wildcats’ goalie Sophie Snyder and Redskins’ goalie Brooke Burd each made eight saves in the game. With the win, Whitman was set to face off against the tourney’s #1 seed, Gananda on the 25th. The results of that game will be printed in our next edition. Section C2 Oct. 18 (#12) Cuba-Rushford/ Hinsdale 5, (#9) Dundee/ Bradford 0 The BraveScots got knocked out of Sectionals early, sustaining a five-point shutout in the first round of the Class C2 tournament. Sophia Riquelme led the Rebels with three goals. Also for CRH, Taylor Searle had a goal and an assist and Cloey Larabee added two assists. Rebels’ goalie Tara Duvall had six saves in the game. With the loss, Dundee/ Bradford finished out their season with a final record of 8-8-1, ending up in 8th place in the Finger Lakes League. The Scots lose just two Seniors to graduation, Captains Trisha Edminster and Hayden Morrison, leaving them with several skilled up-and-comers and plenty of potential in 2023. Section D1 Oct. 22 (#3) Naples 2, (#6) Honeoye 1 After skipping the first round of the D1 bracket, the Big Green won their first Sectional match, defeating Honeoye in a close, tense game. Honeoye’s Ashley Thomas got the first goal of the game, winning the first half for the Bulldogs, but Naples’ Mia Betrus evened the score in the second half, driving the game into overtime, where Betrus scored the game-winner. Penalties really hurt Honeoye, with the Bulldogs picking up a yellow card in each half, and goalie Mickalya Scheele drawing a red card in overtime, which handed the win to Naples. Scheele made five saves, while Naples’ goalie Grayce Hebding had to make 19, showing where some of the game’s frustrations may have stemmed from. The win put Naples up against the #2 seed, Genesee Valley/Belfast. That game will be played tonight and reported in next week’s paper.

Oct. 21 Penn Yan/Dundee 48, Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale 8 In their last game of the regular season, Penn Yan/Dundee crushed the Rebels with a 40-point win, though that type of score has been far from a rarity for the 6-1 Mustangs this fall. PYD starting QB Carter Earl went 13/15 on the day, throwing for 128 yards and three TDs. Earl also had four carries, with one trip into the end zone. Ashtian Dunning came in to relieve Earl later in the game, with all three of his passes finding a receiver and throwing for one TD. Nick Slavick led the Scottish Mustangs on rushing, getting seven carries for 41 yards and a TD and Tony Druker got the ball twice, with one TD. For PYD’s receivers, Dunning caught 6 for 66 yards and a TD, while Wyatt Walters and Braden Fingar also found themselves in the end zone for TDs. Hunter Sheehan led the Mustangs’ defense with 10 tackles. Also for PYD, David Young had seven tackles and Wyatt Walters had two and a pick. Penn Yan/ Dundee now heads into Sectionals, with their first game set to be against Midlakes on Oct. 28.
East Rochester/Gananda 2, Marcus Whitman/Bloomfield 0 Whitman/Bloomfield forfeited their last game of the regular season.
