Mallik Wilks is set to leave Hull City, with long-term admirers Sheffield Wednesday hopeful of concluding a deal for the forward.

Wilks has handed in a transfer request at the Tigers and was left out of Shota Arveladze's squad for the 5-2 defeat at West Brom. YorkshireLive understands that Wednesday are hopeful of completing the signing of Wilks over the next few days.

A deal between the two clubs is believed to be close, and Hull turned down a six-figure bid from the League One side for Wilks earlier this summer.

Questioned about Wilks handing in a transfer request after the defeat at West Brom, Arveladze said: "He wanted to leave. He really made it clear that he didn't want to stay. It is difficult.

"It is about his decision. I was trying to make things better for him, I played him in some games but he wanted to go. If someone wants to go so much, it is difficult to hold on to them."

Since signing for the club in 2020, Wilks has played 91 times for Hull, scoring 30 goals and claiming 10 assists. This season, opportunities at the Tigers have been limited for the 23-year-old.

He played the full 90 minutes in Hull's Carabao Cup defeat at Bradford City, with his only league appearance coming as a substitute in the draw at Burnley on Tuesday.
