Jaguares of Córdoba Obtained a Fundamental Triumph in the Opening of the Colombian League

Jaguares of Córdoba obtained a fundamental triumph in the opening of the Colombian League, with a 2-1 victory over Fortaleza. This victory is not only important because they faced a direct rival in the relegation battle, but also because it was their first win in Bogota since being promoted to the first division last year.

Left midfielder Leonardo Saldaña scored the first goal of the championship, helping his team reach 79 points in the relegation battle, leaving their opponents three points behind in their season opener at the Metropolitano de Techo stadium. Yuberney Franco increased the lead for Jaguares from Córdoba. Meanwhile, Fortaleza managed to equalize with a penalty kick scored by Carlos Rodríguez.

The first half produced three goals and an entertaining 45 minutes between two teams that always tried to finish their attacking plays in the opposition's area and were also effective in their offensive actions.

Jaguares of Córdoba shook off the territorial dominance imposed by Fortaleza in the first quarter of an hour. Fortaleza exploited the right side of their attack to put pressure on the visiting team, but Jaguares responded with a play in front of the opposition's goal, breaking the deadlock.

Left midfielder Leonardo Saldaña converted a free kick from 25 meters with a left-footed shot that found the top-right corner of the goalkeeper Juan Duque, who made an acrobatic save. Minute 18.

Despite the setback, the home team, led by Nilton Bernal, did not give up attacking through the same area that had produced two clear chances on goal.

In the 37th minute, a scramble in the penalty area of the Jaguar team resulted in a penalty awarded by the referee Jorge Guzmán after a ball that was about to be shot towards the Fortaleza goal by number 9 Juan Moreno was stopped by the hand of defender Elvis Perlaza. Carlos Rodríguez scored with a powerful shot down the center to level the game. Minute 38.

The joy in Bogota lasted only one minute thanks to Jaguares' offensive response through the right side of their attack, resulting in a headed goal by Yuberney Franco. Dayron Pérez provided the assist to Harold Rivera, who was the last player to touch the ball before the play ended in the back of the net. Minute 39.

In the second half, Fortaleza had some dangerous moments, but they were unable to break through the resistance of Argentine goalkeeper Sebastián López, who played for Jaguares.

Fortaleza maintained territorial dominance and ball possession, but they were not lucky in their finishing, with their best chance falling to forward Juan Moreno in the 58th minute.

In the next round, Fortaleza was supposed to visit Rionegro Aguilas, but the match was postponed due to the replacement of the grass at the Alberto Grisales stadium. Meanwhile, Jaguares will host the current champion, Atlético Nacional, in the second round at the Municipal de Montería stadium.
