On Monday, December 13, the mayor of the Municipality of Santiago de Surco, Jean Pierre Combe, went viral on social media after verbally assaulting his workers, who have been demanding a debt of 8,500 soles per collaborator.
Through a video, the mayor can be seen leaving his house to confront the workers who are demanding their payments just a few days before Christmas and New Year.
"I'm going to tell you here; go to work, lazy people," the mayor said to the workers of the Municipality of Surco.
The Republic also contacted Ciro Villafuerte, a member of the Union of Workers of the Municipality of Surco, for more details on the situation of the employees who have been making their claims since February.
"He has verbally mistreated us just for making our claim, which is in the Constitution. We have marched peacefully and he has attacked us. Since March, we have held four marches and he refuses to pay us. He owes each worker 8,500 soles," Villafuerte said.
On the other hand, he asserted that they have tried to reach an agreement with the mayor, but have not succeeded. "We have tried to talk to him, but he has always been very secretive, abusive, and arbitrary," he added.
