Mario Yepes announces retirement after 21 years as a professional footballer

Mario Yepes announced his retirement from professional football after a successful 21-year career in Colombian, Argentine, and European football.

The defender made it official and is now focused on what the future holds for him in this sport.

He started at Cortuluá in 1994 and played there until 1997. He then moved to Deportivo Cali where he played for two years and became champion in 1998, before joining River Plate in Argentina.

At River Plate, he won two titles, the Apertura 1999 and Clausura 2000. He then went to Nantes in France (2002-2004) and later moved to PSG (2004-2008).

In Italy, he played for Chievo Verona (2008-2010), Milan (2010-2013, winning the Serie A TIM and the Supercoppa Italiana), and Atalanta (2013-2014).

His last club was San Lorenzo de Almagro.
