Richard Carapaz stepped onto the podium on Sunday in Madrid as the runner-up of the 2020 Vuelta a España. Primoz Roglic (72 h 46 min 12 s) claimed the crown for the second consecutive edition, 24 seconds ahead of the Ecuadorian.
British rider Hugh Carthy finished the race in third place (difference of +1 min 15 s).
Jefferson Cepeda Hernández, the other Ecuadorian in the competition, finished 116th with a difference of 3 h 57 min 46 s.

The Slovenian rider from Team Jumbo-Visma also won the points classification with 204 points. The rider from Carchi was also second there with 133 points.
Roglic arrived at the Spanish race as the defending champion and a month after missing out on the title in the Tour de France (2nd).

The mountain classification, in which Carapaz finished third, was won by French rider Guillaume Martin (Cofidis).
The best young rider was Enric Mas from Movistar Team, the team that won the team classification.
