Quito -

Filippo Ganna and Rohan Dennis from Ineos Grenadiers led the podium of Stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia, which featured an individual time trial between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. The British team had three of their riders in the top 10 of the day, in addition to Ecuadorian Jhonatan Narváez as the top-performing Latin American in the stage.

Ganna, the world champion, surpassed Dennis' time, who had set the best time in the first part of the race. The Australian stopped the clock at 43 minutes and 6 seconds in the 34.1-kilometer course, with an average speed of 47.47 kilometers per hour.

At the finish line, Dennis followed Ganna's race with a mix of tension and joy. A smile from the Brit made it clear the effort made, good time, but not enough against an unbeatable Ganna in the time trial. The Italian crossed the finish line with the best time to place himself first in the standings with 42 minutes and 40 seconds, and an average speed of 47.95 kilometers per hour.

Ineos also stood out with Spanish Jonathan Castroviejo, placing eighth in the stage, along with Ecuadorian Narváez, who finished 5 minutes and 3 seconds behind Ganna as the top-performing Latin American. The Ecuadorian rider finished in 59th place in the stage.

Jonathan Caicedo (EF Pro Cycling) finished in 81st place, and Alexander Cepeda (Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec) in 134th.

Among the Colombians, Einer Rubio (Movistar) was the best placed, finishing in 92nd place in the stage, while Argentine Eduardo Sepúlveda (Movistar) finished in 140th place.

Almeida remains the leader

The time trial did not change the positions on the overall podium, but it extended the differences between the wearer of the maglia rosa, Portuguese Joao Almeida (Deceuninck), and his pursuers.

The overall leader finished sixth in the stage, 1 minute and 31 seconds behind Ganna, widening the gap to 56 seconds with Wilco Kelderman (Sunweb), second in the standings, and to 2 minutes and 11 seconds with Spanish Pello Bilbao (Bahrein-McLaren), third.

The Ecuadorians in the general classification have Narváez in 33rd place, Caicedo in 63rd place, and Cepeda in 92nd place.

The Giro continues on Sunday with Stage 15, a 185-kilometer route between the Rivolto Air Base (Frecce Tricolori) and a finish line with a first-category mountain prize in Piancavallo, the day before the second rest day of the race scheduled for Monday. (D)
