Bayern Completes Fifth Title of the Year
Bayern completed their fifth title of the year, although at times life got complicated for them and they were on the ropes in the second half after being 2-0 ahead in the first half.
Both teams made several changes compared to their lineups in their respective defeats in the Bundesliga against Hoffenheim and Augsburg.
Bayern's coach, Hansi Flick, left David Alaba, who had muscular problems during the week, Jerome Boateng, and Serge Gnabry on the bench, and had to do without Leroy Sané due to injury.
Lucas Hernández, Niklas Süle, Javi Martínez, and Kingsley Coman entered the team in their place. As expected, Robert Lewandowski, who started on the bench on Sunday, returned to the starting lineup.
Flick also changed the formation by dispensing with a winger and reinforcing the defensive side with Javi Martínez playing in front of the defense.
On the Dortmund side, Lucien Favre turned to experience and replaced Jude Bellingham and Giovanni Reyna with Thomas Delaney and Marco Reus, who is still not at his best. He also had to do without Jadon Sancho, who had a respiratory problem, and Julian Brandt played instead.
The game began with a tactical approach, with both teams being cautious, trying to circulate the ball, and avoiding excessive risks in the high press they are used to.
The first goal came in the 18th minute, with Bayern scoring on a counterattack that started from a Dortmund corner. Benjamin headed the ball out of the area to the left flank, Alphonso Davies played with Coman, he played with Kimmich who opened it to the right for Lewandowski, who crossed for Corentin Tolisso to score.
The second goal came in the 32nd minute, with Thomas Müller heading in a cross from Davies from the left.
However, Bayern had shown some difficulties in playing the ball out, and in the 39th minute, after a loss of possession by Pavard, Reus put the ball in the box for Erling Haaland to play with Brandt, who scored with his right foot.
Brandt's goal put Dortmund back in the game, and at the beginning of the second half, they had an excellent opportunity to equalize through Thomas Meunier on a counterattack.
In the 55th minute, Haaland didn't miss. The play started with a 50-50 ball won by Manuel Akanji against Lewandowski. The second ball fell to Delaney who played a pass to Haaland in the box to score.
In the 59th minute, Haaland had a chance to score the third goal when he was left alone in front of Neuer, who made a temporary save.
The second half had clearly belonged to Dortmund, but in the 68th minute, Favre, perhaps thinking of the next Bundesliga match, decided to do without his main offensive weapon and substituted Haaland for Reinier.
Without Haaland, Dortmund lost offensive impetus. Bayern didn't create many chances until Kimmich appeared.
Kimmich won a ball in midfield against Delaney, after an imprecise pass from Manuel Akanji, played a one-two with Lewandowski, and arrived in the box in a position to shoot.
Hitz saved Kimmich's shot, but the rebound, when the player was on the ground, hit his left foot and went into the back of the net.
