Didier Drogba proposes using his foundation hospital as a COVID-19 detection center
Ivorian legendary striker Didier Drogba has proposed to the authorities of his country that the hospital of his foundation in Abidjan, the economic capital, be used as a coronavirus detection center.
"L'Équipe" reported on Monday that the former Chelsea star presented the project at the hospital located in a popular neighborhood of Abidjan, which is named after Laurent-Pokou, a former Ivorian player and coach who died in 2016.
The prefect of the city thanked Drogba for a gesture he described as "an act of patriotism."
Meanwhile, the director of the foundation that manages the center, Mariam Breka, pointed out that it is now up to the State to make the center functional.
Authorities announced last Thursday their intention to implement a COVID-19 detection strategy with 13 sample collection centers in Abidjan and 45 throughout the country.
According to official figures, Ivory Coast has recorded 533 positives and 5 deaths.
