To collaborate with the situation that the country is facing in the health emergency caused by COVID-19, Macará's president, Miller Salazar, announced last week that he is making the sports residence in La Providencia, Tisaleo canton, available to the authorities.
In a telephone conversation with EL UNIVERSO, Salazar stated that this is the best he can do for Ambato and Tungurahua, considering that the LigaPro championship is on hold and the residence is not occupied.
He mentioned that on Saturday afternoon he received a call informing him that the residence could be used by doctors working in different healthcare facilities, since some of them are not from Ambato and others live far from their homes. Taking into account that doctors are overloaded with work, he said, "I told them that there was no problem, we made the residence available yesterday (Sunday) for doctors from the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS), and later on, doctors from the Ambato Regional Hospital called me. I asked them to try to organize themselves in the best way possible and coordinate among themselves so that some may use one floor and others the second one."
The president of Macará said that he knows that more doctors arrived on Monday, but any effort is good to face the pandemic. He stated that the capacity is for 40 people, but it can be adapted to accommodate more.
He also mentioned that he is aware that some people in the area are trying to prevent doctors from entering, believing that COVID-19 patients will be treated there. Regarding this, he said that the authorities should approach these people to clarify the situation and allow the doctors to enter the residence. (D)
