Bayern secures victory against Augsburg

The first half was complicated for Bayern, who faced a tight defense by Augsburg that left little space.

Hansi Flick's team went into halftime with a goalless draw and only one clear chance to score, in the 45th minute, in the last play of the first half, when Thomas Müller received a cross from Serge Gnabry on the right and shot over the goal.

Augsburg tried to slow down the game when they had the ball - which rarely happened - and when defending, they retreated and allowed Bayern to move the ball near the center line, waiting for them with two lines of four men.

Augsburg's resistance was broken in the 53rd minute. Jerome Boateng made an incredible long pass from the center circle, over Augsburg's entire defense, which Müller received in the box and finished with a left-footed touch.

Augsburg didn't change their approach much despite the disadvantage, but Bayern started to create more chances and their goal-scoring opportunities multiplied.

Augsburg goalkeeper, Andreas Luthe, saved his team in the 65th and 69th minutes after shots by Joshua Zirkzee and Philippe Coutinho, and in the 71st minute, Gnabry's shot narrowly missed the target after a great pass from Joshua Kimmich.

Bayern's second goal seemed imminent at any moment, but Augsburg had a counterattack in the 80th minute that could have ended in a draw. It was stopped by Manuel Neuer, who made a close-range save from Florian Niederlechner.

Bayern made substitutions clearly intending to reinforce their defense - Javi Martinez and Lucas Hernandez came in for Thiago Alcantara and Coutinho - while Augsburg put more pressure on the attack in the final minutes.

Bayern sealed the match in the 91st minute with a goal by Leon Goretzka, who took advantage of a short pass inside the box from Gnabry.
