Nagelsmann to debut as Germany's new coach following World Cup failures
After the embarrassing World Cup in Qatar at the end of last year, which even led to the dismissal of Hansi Flick, Julian Nagelsmann will make his debut as Germany's new coach.
The former Bayern Munich coach will lead the national team for the first time this Saturday (14) in an international friendly against the United States.
Nagelsmann will be in charge of leading the team in next year's Euro Cup held in Germany. Considered a positive bet after his time at the Bavarian club, the 36-year-old German coach is also known for his strong personality off the field.
This is because the coach tends to activate "honest mode" during interviews. Six months ago, for example, Nagelsmann called his players "lazy" after Bayern's stumble against Bayer Leverkusen, which caused the team to lose its lead in the Bundesliga to Borussia Dortmund at the time.
"Except for the last ten minutes, we were the worst team. There was little strength on the field, we weren't playing well. So, we deserved to lose. We've had this over and over again. There had been an improvement in the last few weeks in terms of emotion and quality. Today we were lazy. Defensively and offensively, some players had a zero percent conversion rate. We were very weak in our own performance," said the coach, who also has experience with Heidenheim and RB Leipzig.
Now, the young coach will have the mission of building a strong team for the Euro Cup to repeat the good performance that Germany had the last time the country hosted a major tournament in the 2006 World Cup. It's worth remembering that Germany, after winning the title in 2014 in Brazil, had disappointing performances in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, being eliminated in the group stage.
