It's official!
Actor Dan Aykroyd, who is remembered for his role as Ray Stantz in "Ghostbusters" will once again bring his iconic character to life in the new Sony installment.
Aykroyd himself confirmed the news in an interview with The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
"I'm not in the movie business much anymore. We have the Ghostbusters movie that we're working on now and I'll have to be performing in that... Ivan Reitman's son, Jason, has written a new movie called, well, it will be Ghostbusters, the third movie. It will be all, most of the original characters and then young stars," the actor revealed.
Let's remember that Aykroyd co-wrote the script for the original Ghostbusters movie that was directed by Ivan Reitman and he also acted in that installment and its 1989 sequel, which this new movie will be set after.
So far, no further details about the production have been revealed; however, in a previous interview with ET Canada, Aykroyd hinted that the new characters will have some kind of connection to the original protagonists.
"Well, we really needed to hand it off to a new generation, and we didn't... Although the girls' film kept the concept and the ideas alive, it was really good and they were great, it wasn't like handing it to the new generation, the actual descendants of the original Ghostbusters. So we're going to link to the DNA, old and new there," Aykroyd said to ET Canada about the 2016 reboot.
With Aykroyd's return, we only need to confirm the return of Sigourney Weaver and the intentions of Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts to return to the franchise. Meanwhile, there is still no agreement for Bill Murray's return. The new Ghostbusters movie will premiere in July 2020.
