The South Korean star Son Heung-Min has renewed with Tottenham for three seasons, so he will remain in the Premier League club until 2023, announced the Spurs on their website on Friday.

"We are pleased to announce that Son Heung-Min has signed a new contract with the club," the entity announced.

Since his arrival in 2015, Son has become a key player for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

"I am very happy to sign a new contract," said Son in a video posted by the club on social media.

Last season, Son played 53 out of 55 games for Tottenham, scoring 20 goals, in a team that finished third in the Premier League and reached the semifinals of the FA Cup.

The 26-year-old footballer scored two goals for South Korea in the World Cup, where the Asian team was eliminated in the group stage, but achieved a historic victory against Germany (2-0). AFP

And the military service?

Despite the renewal, it remains to be seen if the Asian footballer will perform mandatory military service in his country. This will depend on whether he wins gold in the Asian Games in August, a tournament for which he was called up by the South Korean federation.
