ANCHORAGE, Alask (KTUU) - Most Alaskans will admit there’s nothing like the great outdoors around here. Which often means many locals are reminded they share space with wildlife. Athletes in the ‘Gold Nugget Triathlon’ Sunday got very close with what riders described as an ‘aggressive looking moose’ south of JBER and North of Muldoon on the south bound exit. An officer was stationed nearby as women rode on their bikes. Thankfully no one was reported injured.
Channel 2 is also learning information about a bear kill near the Potter Creek Trail head off the Turnagain Arm Trail. There’s signage warning hikers to be aware and stay off that trail because we’re told there’s a moose carcass up the trail and bears are feeding on it.
Fish and game warns it’s crucial to pay attention to posted signs and if you see those while on a walk hop back into your car, turn around and find another trail to hike.
“If we see brown bears in neighborhoods, particularly brown bears getting into garbage or even black bears getting into garbage, go ahead and report that. Call us Monday through Friday, 9-5 or go to our website. Our web page has a button that you can click on and it will take reports 24/7,” said Ken Marsh, a public information officer for Alaska Fish & Game.
KTUU's Jill Burke also said a black bear with triplets was spotted on the triathlon course.
