Adrian Peterson wants to prove he is still an elite runner
The 33-year-old veteran, Adrian Peterson, wants to prove that he is still an elite runner in the NFL, despite being plagued by injuries. He says he is in good health and ready to make a statement.
Peterson has been posting various videos of his training sessions in hopes that a team will give him an opportunity in free agency.
"If you want someone to help you win a championship and be productive, you know how to contact me. I am healthy and ready, and I know that once I return, I will show the people that I am still the best in the league," he told NFL Network.
Peterson knows that his health has been a major issue after 11 seasons in the NFL. He played only three games in 2016 with the Minnesota Vikings due to a torn meniscus in his right knee, and 10 games last season with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals before a neck injury put him on the injured list.
A couple of teams have inquired about his services, Peterson said, but he would "definitely be open" to returning to the Saints, a team that will need help in the backfield at the beginning of the season as Mark Ingram serves a four-game suspension.
Despite his quick departure, the Saints felt that Peterson was a positive influence last year on players like Alvin Kamara. However, it seems they do not plan to sign the veteran.
"For some reason, it just didn't work out (in New Orleans), but when I got my chance in Arizona, I showed what I was capable of," said Peterson, who ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns.
His physical prowess has helped him rush for 12,276 yards, including 2,097 in his MVP season in 2012, but they have not completely disappeared after an anterior cruciate ligament tear.
7 mile run routine, First mile speed of 6, second mile ran at 9 and for the next 5 miles alternate lap speed 5.0-6.5 for 1 then speed at 12 for 1 repeat for a total of 20 Laps. 🙏🏾 and ask for strength before starting! It helped me fight through. pic.twitter.com/Mzc11B2U8z
