Los Angeles police said Monday that Oakland Raiders offensive lineman Donald Penn has been named a suspect in an alleged domestic violence incident, while Penn and his wife, Dominique, said in a statement that they simply had a "verbal disagreement."
Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Norma Eisenman told USA TODAY Sports that police responded to an Encino, Calif., home at approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday in response to an alleged domestic violence incident. Penn was not at the home when police arrived, she said, and the 35-year-old has not been arrested or charged with a crime.
In a joint statement released Monday through spokesperson Denise White, the couple said no physical altercation took place.
"There was a verbal disagreement, there was NO physical altercation," read the statement, which was provided to USA TODAY Sports. "The two are in the middle of a divorce and it is a hard time for both parties."
The Raiders did not immediately reply to a request for comment. TMZ first reported that police were investigating the alleged incident.

Penn has started 170 career games at left tackle, including 62 games over the past four seasons with Oakland. A three-time Pro Bowl honoree, he signed a two-year, $21-million contract extension with the Raiders in September after holding out during part of training camp and the preseason.
