Jose Arevalo elected as President of Fedenador

Jose Arevalo, current president of the Ecuadorian Basketball Federation, was elected as the head of the Ecuador National Sports Federation (Fedenador) at the Extraordinary Assembly of this organization held on Saturday at the auditorium of this institution.

The vote was not by majority for the also intervener of the Ministry of Sports, as the delegates from Pichincha Sports Concentration, Jose Antonio Guevara, and from Cotopaxi Sports Federation, Liliana Jakeline Acaro, did not support the new head of the sports organization.

However, the rest of the attendees and authorized provincial delegates (19 out of the 20 who attended the sports assembly) voted in favor of Arevalo, 1 abstained, and 3 voted against him.

The board was formed as follows:

• President: Jose Ignacio Arevalo
• 1st Vice President: Jefferson Gilberto Olaya (Guayas)
• 2nd Vice President: Lisseth Fernanda Salinas (Cotopaxi)
• 1st Vocal: Jose Antonio Guevara (Pichincha)
• 2nd Vocal: Liliana Jakeline Acaro (Zamora Chinchipe)
• 3rd Vocal: Frethman Mauricio Fomezjurado (Imbabura)
• 4th Vocal: Javier Francisco Figueroa

Upon taking office, the new board, which will be in charge until April 2022, Arevalo defended his appointment in response to questioning for being the president of the national basketball federation. "The law allows me to be in charge of both institutions. Contrary to what someone might think, it is beneficial for sports because we can work together between the national federations and Fedenador," he said.

He added that his candidacy was the same as any citizen with their constitutional rights can run for in this type of election, and he also stated that within 30 days, he will announce the result of the audit conducted on his predecessor, Luis Gomez. He mentioned that irregularities have been found, as well as destruction of Fedenador's facilities. "I cannot reveal anything specific at this time, and I can only indicate that within 30 days, we will announce the result of the examination that has been conducted," he emphasized. (D)
