German Sanchez, Olympic medalist, safe and stable after accident during training
German Sanchez, two-time Olympic medalist, is reported to be stable and out of danger after suffering an accident during his training for the National Diving Championship in León, Guanajuato.
The incident occurred during a failed execution of a dive with four and a half somersaults, with a difficulty rating of 4.1. Sanchez was able to exit the pool on his own and was immediately taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Medical reports indicate that he is out of danger, but further evaluations will be conducted. One of the specialists mentioned that Sanchez has a small fracture on the floor of his left eye orbit, which caused air to enter the eye socket.
An ophthalmologist will conduct a more thorough examination of the diver in order to determine the appropriate treatment and recovery plan. Sanchez will remain hospitalized overnight to prevent any complications.
Coach Ivan Bautista, Dr. José Luis García, and Sanchez's teammates Ivan Garcia and Paola Espinosa are accompanying him after the incident.
