USA Gymnastics confirms resignation of entire Board of Directors

The USA Gymnastics federation has informed on Wednesday that it has received the resignation of all members of its Board of Directors, as required by the US Olympic Committee (USOC).

The USOC demanded a few days ago the resignation of the members of the board shortly after the conviction of former national gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar in Michigan, who was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison for abusing young gymnasts. The trial heard heartbreaking testimony from 160 of his victims over a span of 20 years.

Nassar had already been sentenced to 60 years in prison for possession of child pornography.

Through a statement, USA Gymnastics thanks the members of the Board of Directors for their service. "We are grateful for the time and effort that each one has dedicated to gymnastics in the United States," the organization says.

"We are in the process of moving forward with the formation of an interim Board of Directors during the month of February, in accordance with the requirements of the USOC. USA Gymnastics will provide information about this process in the coming days," it adds.

USA Gymnastics emphasizes that it not only accepts the necessary changes as required by the USOC. "We will also maintain the organization to the highest standards of care and safety, in the development of a culture of empowerment for our athletes and members."

USA Gymnastics has received resignations from all of the members of its Board of Directors, as required by the USOC.
