The Organizing Committee of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games, led by Horacio de la Vega, director general of INDEPORTE, and Jimena Saldaña, vice president of the Mexican Olympic Committee, met with national sports federations in order to coordinate and join efforts towards this grand event.
As it is known, this 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the Mexico 1968 Olympic Games, for which a series of celebrations will take place involving sports, culture, infrastructure, and sporting milestones.
De la Vega Flores and Saldaña de Aja emphasized the importance of the celebrations for the Mexican population, especially children and youth, to learn about the great transformation and legacy that the Olympic Games had in our country.
They urged the Sports Federations to interact and schedule events that they consider could be part of these celebrations that will be held throughout 2018, after the formal launch by the Head of Government, Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa, and the President of the Mexican Olympic Committee, Carlos Padilla Becerra, in the coming days.
Both leaders expressed their interest in ensuring that the impact of the celebrations reaches the widest possible audience and showcases what Mexico was and is through sports, for which they will involve different actors such as historical and current athletes, government agencies, embassies, the Federal Government, the Government of Mexico City, among others.
It was established the importance of having all the sports facilities from Mexico 1968 in "tip-top shape" and in optimal conditions to commemorate this 50th anniversary, and it was highlighted that the venues that will be part of the grand celebration, such as various facilities at the Magdalena Mixihuca Sports City, will look top-notch.
In addition, the Sports Federations were provided with the graphic image that will be used in this anniversary, as well as all the guidelines required for its use in relation to commercialization; the agreements regarding the rights of its management were emphasized.
The meetings with the Sports Federations will take place this Thursday, January 11, and also tomorrow, Friday, January 12, at the INDEPORTE facilities.
