The Italian Vincenzo Montella, new coach of Sevilla, stated on Saturday in his presentation that his goal, when accepting this "incredible opportunity", "is to win more as a coach, and this is an ideal club to express" his ideas, and proclaimed that he wants his teams to play "with spirit and passion".

In the press room at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, Montella, who has signed for a season and a half, until June 2019, replacing the Argentine Eduardo Berizzo -dismissed on December 22-, gave "thanks to the president (José Castro) and the club" for giving him the "great opportunity" to train Sevilla and start this stage in Spanish football.

"It wasn't a dream, it was a goal I had and I achieved it. I was delighted when I was here -in the semifinals of the 2014-15 Europa League that Fiorentina lost to Sevilla-. I loved the stadium, the club; there is a very beautiful spirit for all of us who play football," emphasized the former coach, among others, of AC Milan.

Game plan

In addition to showing his desire to bring back French midfielder Steven Nzonzi for his project, who has missed the last seven matches of Sevilla due to a dispute with Berizzo, he explained that, "first of all," he wants to "understand the spirit of this city and the club".

He added that his idea of football "is realized through an active playing style, team spirit, passion, and this has to start within each of the players," and argued that he believes that if they try "to play football, it is easier to win".

The 43-year-old Neapolitan, who also coached Roma, Catania and Sampdoria, will lead his first training session this afternoon to begin preparing for the Seville derby on January 6 against Betis.
