The Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) decided to dismiss Ángel María Villar as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), a position he is currently suspended from for one year, for having served as president of the Management Committee during the last electoral process while running for re-election.

El Tribunal Administrativo del Deporte (TAD) decided to dismiss Ángel María Villar as president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), a position from which he is already suspended for one year, for having served as president of the Management Committee during the last electoral process while running for re-election.
The members of the TAD endorsed with their decision the proposal of the instructor of the file opened against Villar for this reason, at the request of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), last September, confirmed sources close to the TAD.
For the instructor of the file, Cristina Pedrosa, it was proven that Villar's actions constituted an offense under the Sports Law (article 76.2. a) and considered "very serious" for having violated the duty of neutrality of the Management Committee provided for in the Electoral Regulations.
"Once the elections to the RFEF were called by its then-president, on February 13, 2017, he assumed the presidency of the Management Committee. Being the president of said Management Committee and without ceasing to be so, he carried out numerous activities aimed at advertising and promoting his candidacy for the presidency of the RFEF and obtaining support for his candidacy," said the instructor in her proposal for dismissal.
After mentioning the activity that Ángel María Villar carried out on Facebook and Twitter and the publication of his electoral program under the name of "pre-candidate for the presidency", the instructor insisted that Villar "carried out the aforementioned acts despite the prohibition contained in the electoral regulations" of the RFEF.
This regulation establishes that those who submit their candidacy to be part of the governing and representative bodies of the Federation cannot be members of the Management Committee and must cease to hold that position when submitting their candidacy.
