Macará coach's statements
After Macará's coach, Paúl Vélez, spoke about a supposed interest from the referees to favor Delfín, the organization of the referees responded. "If the Ecuafútbol doesn't react with a strong sanction to the coach for his statements, the end of the national tournament will be greatly affected," warned Luis Muentes in statements to radio Redonda in Guayaquil.
Vélez, through the same media, apologized hours later. "They insulted me from all sides, they threw urine at me. With a hot head, in the locker room, a radio station interviewed me and I said many incoherences," he said.
The Macará coach pointed out that he didn't doubt the honesty of the referees, but he still apologized. "I apologize to the referees, we all make mistakes and I don't know if drastic actions should be taken for something I said with a hot head," said Mr. Muentes."
