Tiger Woods Had Ingested Five Medications at the Time of His Arrest

A toxicological examination released on Monday by American media revealed that golfer Tiger Woods had ingested five medications when he was arrested in his car at the end of May.

According to ESPN, the former number one had consumed hydrocodone (sold under the brand Vicodin), hydromorphone (Dilaudid), alprazolam (Xanax), zolpidem (Ambien), and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, one of the components of marijuana). It also questioned whether Woods had a prescription for all the medications, although it noted that medical marijuana is legal in the state of Florida.

The report confirms Woods' version of events. The golfer was arrested over two months ago for driving under the influence after police found him asleep at the wheel of his car near his home in Jupiter, Florida.

At the time, Woods explained that his condition was due to an "unexpected reaction" to medications, but he apologized and took "full responsibility" for his actions.

After the release of the examination, Woods' communication team issued a statement reaffirming that the golfer is receiving professional assistance to manage the medications he takes for his back pain and sleep problems.

"As I have said before, I have received professional help to manage my medications," Woods was quoted as saying. "I have realized it was a mistake to try to treat my back problems and insomnia without medical assistance. I feel that I am now making great progress with my doctors."

Winner of 14 majors - the last in 2008 - Woods has not played a tournament since early February in Dubai, where he withdrew after the first round due to his ongoing back pain. Problems in that area of his body have led the 79-time PGA champion to undergo four surgeries in the past.
