The match lasted 57 minutes, where Fils showed his superiority playing on a cement surface. Varillas had four aces, compared to nine from the European player, and won only 31% of the points played on the second serve, compared to his opponent's 77% in that category. The South American player lost his serve four times, while having two opportunities but not being able to break his opponent's serve. In the semifinals, Fils will face the top candidate for the title, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, No. 7 in the world.

Juan Pablo is currently ranked 69th in the world rankings and will continue playing on European courts. His next tournament will be the ATP 500 in Vienna, where he will face local player Filip Milosic in the first qualifying round on Saturday, October 21.

This year, Varillas reached the quarterfinals in Buenos Aires, Gstaad, and Antwerp, in addition to reaching the round of 16 in a Grand Slam in his professional career, at the traditional Roland Garros.
