The pair have played each other once before, and that was on the clay of Madrid earlier this year, Safiullin winning their first round match in three sets.

Jarry Needs to Work Harder on Hard Court Adaptation
Jarry still needs to adjust his game to the demands of hard courts, having already won two clay court titles this year, and reached a career high world ranking as a result.
He appeared to have adapted reasonably well in Los Cabos, where he reached the third round, beating a Mexican wildcard and then the Dutch player Gijs Brouwer in the process, before running into the top seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Greek won – and would go on to win the title – but not before Jarry took the first set of him.
However, the events in Toronto last week suggested he still has some way to go in getting used to the harder surfaces.
He began well in his first round match with Ugo Humbert, the world number 34, and took the first set, but then he allowed the Frenchman back into the match, and dropped the next two.

Safiullin’s First Match Since Wimbledon Quarter-Final
Safiullin has been enjoying the best season of his career to date.
It began in February after he secured his first Challenger title, in Germany, which enabled him to reach a personal top ranking.
However, it was at Wimbledon where he really made a name for himself, beating a string of players, including Denis Shapovalov and Roberto Batuista-Agut, to reach the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time.
Jannik Sinner, though, ended his run with a four set defeat.
That, though, was the last time that he stepped on court, having chosen to miss the subsequent hard court tournaments in Atlanta, Washington and Toronto.
Jarry v Safiullin Prediction and Tip
Safiullin has had no match practice on hard courts so may need time to adapt, and shake off the rust, although he should be well-rested after his exploits at Wimbledon. The fact, though, that he beat Jarry in their one previous meeting this year should give him a psychological edge over the Chilean, who is still trying to come to terms with the surface himself.
