A Sad and Regrettable Incident at the WTA Budapest

A sad and regrettable incident occurred at the WTA Budapest, where Zhang Shuai, Wimbledon doubles player, decided to withdraw from the match after her opponent made one of the most unsportsmanlike acts in a tennis match. Amarissa Toth decided to wipe the ball mark with her foot on the line when the Chinese player challenged the play.

Zhang, who is the second seed, retired from the match when she was trailing 6-5 in the first set against Hungarian Amarissa Toth in the clay tournament.

The controversy arose because it seemed that Zhang's forehand landed in, but the chair umpire said it was out. Zhang argued the decision with the supervisor, but the decision stood and the match continued briefly before they argued again.

Zhang reiterated her arguments and Toth went to the line to remove the mark with her foot.

"Wait, wait! Keep the mark!" shouted Zhang in response. "What are you doing? Why are you doing that?"

Zhang sat in her chair crying and shaking her head from side to side for a moment before retiring.

She shook hands with the umpire and Toth before apparently pointing towards the crowd, who booed her for disputing the umpire's decision.

Shuai thanked her social media followers for the support after what happened in the first round of the WTA Budapest.

A lot of players/fans sent such warm messages, love ❤️ you guys and really appreciate it again. Move forward, stay strong ????????

Shuai Zhang Suffers from Depression

The Chinese tennis player, who has not returned to her country for years due to problems with the Federation, has stated that she suffers from depression, and being away from her roots worsens the situation.

"After my grandparents passed away, I started to think about the meaning of life. I'm 34 years old and I have been playing tennis for 29 years. I have tried to give my best, but everyone has a limit. I feel deeply tired, especially mentally. I miss Chinese food in China," said the Wimbledon doubles semifinalist.
