The Guadalajara Open Akron 2022 will put the metropolitan city as the epicenter of tennis in Latin America. The first 43 players' list was presented and the event director, Gustavo Santoscoy, affirmed that the city is on par with Madrid, Rome, Doha, among other capitals, by hosting the WTA 1000.

"Today Guadalajara is on the world stage, on par with Madrid, aroma, Miami, Indian Wells, the nine best tournaments in the world."
"Today someone told me that if Zapopan is the tennis capital in Latin America, and I think it is," said the event director.
The "Pearl of Guadalajara" has become a tennis reference in the last four years and crowns itself with an event of which only nine are played worldwide.
"We had Finals, today we have a 1000, we had a 125, we already had a 250, I think no other municipality in the world has achieved in four years what we have achieved in Zapopan," added Santoscoy.
There are still five wild cards to be defined, with hopes that Fernanda Contreras can be one of them; the players will be announced in the coming days.
There are 25 days left until the start of the tournament (October 17-23), and there is still a possibility that the number one in the ranking, Iga Swiatek, can compete.
