The British Mo Farah wins the gold in the 10,000 meters at Rio-2016
British athlete Mo Farah, who came to Rio-2016 with the idea of repeating his double win in the middle distance achieved in London-2012, fulfilled half of his objective this Saturday by winning the gold in the 10,000 meters, while awaiting the 5,000 meters.
In addition, the British athlete of Somali origin, who also achieved the double win in the World Championships in Moscow-2013 and Beijing-2015, added to his legend by overcoming a fall that occurred just before the 4-kilometer mark, caused by American runner Galen Rupp, Farah's training partner.
The Olympic champion set a time of 27:05.17, crossing the finish line ahead of Kenyan runner Paul Kipngetich Tanui (27:05.64), who won bronze in the last two World Championships, and Ethiopian runner Tamirat Tola (27:06.26).
The 33-year-old British athlete faced a tough test in the 10,000 meters final, as in addition to the fall, he had to deal alone with the teamwork of the Kenyan and Ethiopian runners, each with three representatives, who unsuccessfully tried to wear out Farah.
After the Ethiopians controlled the race until the halfway point, it was the Kenyans who took over.
Farah, who was initially lagging behind and then in the midst of the Africans, launched his attack with one kilometer to go, but in the final lap, Tanui managed to take the lead for a few meters, until the British athlete launched a strong attack on the final straight.
