Peru is one of the great South American powers in athletics and this was demonstrated in the recent Pan American Games Santiago 2023. With the gold medal won by Christian Pacheco in the Marathon event (42.195 meters), with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 4 seconds, another one of our representatives, Gladys Tejeda, did not stay behind and won the bronze medal to also be present at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Now, the goal of the athlete born in Junín is to shine and once again raise the name of Peru; that is why she used her social networks to first thank the support she received in Chile and then ask for support for her participation next year in the Olympic Games.

"From the bottom of my heart, thanks to God and to all who always show me their love, their strength, and their encouragement; that undoubtedly becomes my ideal fuel to proudly represent the colors of my beloved homeland," said the 38-year-old marathon runner in an emotional message.

"I feel truly fortunate to have represented our beloved Peru once again in the Marathon event of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023. Join me in my next goal: Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Infinitely grateful to my sponsors, the Peruvian Sports Institute, my coach, and my family," concluded Tejeda on her Facebook account.

How much was Gladys Tejeda's time in Santiago 2023?

The winner of the women's marathon event was the Mexican Citlali Cristian Moscote with a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 12 seconds. The second place went to the Argentine Florencia Borelli (2 hours, 27 minutes, and 29 seconds). Gladys Tejeda completed the podium, recording a time of 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 39 seconds.
