LIV Golf: Changing the Game

After what he considered a smear campaign, Mexican player Carlos Ortiz is ready to introduce golf fans to the new game mode: LIV, which promises to be one of the most interesting changes the sport has seen in decades.

This weekend, at the Mayakoba golf course in Riviera Maya, LIV Golf will not only make its first appearance in Mexico, but also kick off its second season.

"I think we're all concerned about showing the good side of this tour. I think a lot of information has been presented by the media that is not true. It has been portrayed in a way that doesn't benefit us, but I think this has a lot more to offer and that's what matters to us. I was really concerned that people in Mexico see why I made the change, that it's not just for money or other things," said the 31-year-old player who spent six years on the PGA Tour and reached a world ranking of 44 before jumping to the new tour funded by the Saudi fund.

For the player with a victory in the professional field, making the decision to move to this new tour is "a dream come true," as he believes that now, under new conditions, he has the opportunity to team up with his best friends on the best courses.

"I do believe that the future of golf has to evolve. Changes are never easy, but in the long run, they are good and I think it will be shown. There's a different atmosphere, a different vibe, where it's a more relaxed golf where people can come and enjoy," he added.

Carlos gave the example of the relationship with the fans, as before the course had to be completely silent, which was difficult when there were children present. But now, accompanied by music at all times and with areas for fans to have a different approach to the sport, with different dynamics and even music concerts," he explained.

"I think the spectators will appreciate that. Maybe there are still doubts right now, but I think over time they will appreciate it," he concluded.
