Israel Gutierrez, national basketball team player and player for the Halcones Rojos de Veracruz, said he was surprised by Mexico's disaffiliation from FIBA and assured that he and his teammates dream of going to Rio 2016.
"I just found out, I'm not very well informed, but it is very sad that these things happen. It is regrettable that politics enter sports and that it is affecting basketball. As an athlete, you train day by day and for that you need the unconditional support of your Federation."
The Olympic Games are a longing for Gutierrez, but leaving Mexico to play in Europe is the ultimate goal and although he had the opportunity to travel to the Old Continent this year, he decided to stay in his country to continue supporting national sports.
"Let's hope that the measure that FIBA is taking is resolved and that Mexico is not disaffiliated. In Ademeba, like everything, there are good and bad things, things that could be improved, but it is what we have and as players we can only give our best."
