Buenos Aires -

Argentine tennis player Juan Martin Del Potro announced that he will undergo surgery tomorrow Monday for an injury to his right knee in the city of Miami, United States, seven months after a first intervention in the same area in Barcelona.

The surgery will be performed by Doctor Lee Kaplan and aims to eliminate "a pain that not only prevents him from playing tennis, but also makes it difficult for him to carry out daily activities," as explained by the press team of the Argentine player on social media.

"After long weeks of consultations in Argentina, Europe, and the United States, most doctors have come to the conclusion that a new intervention on the right knee is necessary. After analyzing the options, Delpo trusted Doctor Lee Kaplan, who will perform a scheduled surgery for this Monday 27 in Miami," it was highlighted.

Del Potro, 31 years old, had surgery in June 2019 in Barcelona by Doctor Angel Ruiz Cotorro and shortly after began a recovery process, with the aim of returning to the circuit in October to participate in the ATP tournaments in Stockholm (Sweden) and Vienna (Austria).

However, the discomfort in the knee continued and he had to postpone his return to the courts time and time again and finish the 2019 season, to the point that he couldn't even play an exhibition match against Swiss player Roger Federer in November at Parque Roca in Buenos Aires.

The Argentine, who flew to Miami on Saturday night, played his last official match on June 19, 2019, when he defeated Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the first round of the Queen's tournament in London, a match in which he worsened the injury for which he was operated shortly after.

Monday's operation will be Del Potro's sixth surgery in his career. He has previously been operated on his right wrist, then had three interventions on his left wrist, and more recently, on his right knee for a fractured patella. (D)
