Peruvian Surfer 'Piccolo' Clemente Wins Gold in Pan American Games Santiago 2023
The Peruvian athlete Benoit Clemente Rothfuss, better known as 'Piccolo' Clemente, achieved the gold medal and was crowned Pan American champion in the Longboard category, after a fierce competition against Chilean Rafael Cortez in the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.
Clemente, who also won gold in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, recorded a total score of 12.16, placing Peru at the top in the Chilean beach Punta de Lobos. His opponent scored 10.37 points.
With this achievement, our country has accumulated its fourth gold medal in the Pan American Games Santiago 2023. It is the third medal obtained by Peruvian surfers on Monday, as Vania Torres and Miguel Tudel also achieved bronze with their magnificent performances.
'Piccolo' Clemente is a member of the Athlete Support Program (PAD) of the IPD, and managed to make an excellent performance, using his remarkable experience in handling his surfboard to tame the challenging waves of Punta de Lobos beach in Chile.
So far, Peru has won 17 medals: 4 gold, 1 silver, and 12 bronze, throughout their performances in Santiago 2023.
