Juan Pablo Varillas is living a great moment in tennis. After eleven years of drought, he became the first Peruvian to win a Challenger title: the Campinas, and yesterday he won another one: in Santo Domingo.
These achievements on the ATP professional circuit have allowed him to climb to the 161st position in the world rankings. But 'JuanPa' wants more and has already set a new goal: "I'm going to keep fighting to continue climbing in the rankings and finish the year within the Top 100," he said in an interview with the Santo Domingo Open.
"A couple of months ago, it sounded impossible, but now I'm very close. I have to play every match as I have been doing for the past two weeks. What's coming up in these days is a rest in Lima (before the Challenger in the Peruvian capital)," he added.
The tennis player also stated that he has found consistency in his game and that the Santo Domingo tournament is the biggest he has won in his life. His next stop will be at home: at the Challenger in Lima, which will take place from October 21 to 27 at the Terrazas de Miraflores Club.
